We recently came across a presentation from Julius Solaris highlighting the key factors that guests hate when attending an event and we wanted to share the top 10 with you.

1. Wifi is a must these days, if the wifi at your event is not working, this is unacceptable.

2. What are you doing to prevent long registration lines? There are many technology platforms to help with this.

3. Are you using a hashtag for your event? It is important to learn how to hashtag properly and use platforms like Twitter and Instagram to promote your event.

4. Communicate with your team by making sure everyone is very clear about the schedule and floor plan.  If people on your team are unclear about even the smallest detail it can make the entire event appear unorganized.

5. Diversity is essential. Always using the same vendors or speakers will show your guests that you do not welcome change, and by helping smaller businesses or individuals they feel inclined to return the favour and use or promote your services in the future.

6. The event website should be clean, user friendly and visually appealing.

7. Embrace new technology and be up to date with modern solutions. Such things can help speed up the registration process or give a better visual appeal to the entire event.

8. If you are planning the same event each year, what are you changing about it? The venue, the schedule, the speakers, the food? Something needs to change each time. This makes the event exciting and appealing for guests to want to attend again.

9. Do not make alcohol the objective, there is a better way to network.

10. Be environmentally friendly by working with catering companies that use local family farms or plan events in cities that recycle. The local farms are likely to produce organic food and cities like San Francisco that recycle will likely appreciate your efforts.

Mistakes are common, they happen  and are inevitable. The important thing is to learn from those mistakes to make the next event you plan even better.
